Explaining Electronic Trailer Sway Control

If you’ve ever wondered how electronic trailer sway control works, you should keep reading. The Youtube video “Trailer Electronic Sway Prevention Systems Explained” has the best explanation so you can understand how trailer sway happens and how it’s controlled. Let’s find out more!

There are two types of sway prevention and recovery systems. The first one works on the tow car, the Towcar-based Trailer Stability Control (TSC), while the second type, the Trailer-based Trailer Stability Control, operates on the trailer.

The TSC detects swaying on the trailer behind it and creates a snaking movement from the tow car that can stop it. The tow car will have a bunch of sensors installed, so it can detect any strange movement and send a signal to start controlling it. This preventative movement will start slowly, but it’ll increase as needed. Additionally, the tow car will automatically slow down its wheels. This electronic system is more precise than any driver could ever hope to be.

The second type of control is similar, but the sensors are located on the trailer. It also begins in much the way same because the sensors will detect swaying and start working to control it.
